Gophers' 1V8 Named B1G Boat of the Week

MINNEAPOLIS - After picking up a pair of victories at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite, the University of Minnesota women's rowing team's First Varsity Eight boat garnered Big Ten Boat of the Week honors from the league office. It was the first weekly accolade awarded this season.

The 1V8 boat comprised of coxswain Taylor Gainey, Lisa Weeks, Madison Koch, Rebecca Braak, Lynn Hodnett, Sara Scarbro, Haley Bagley, Jessica Flakne and Kylie Andersen defeated UCF, Oklahoma and Big Ten-foe Michigan State with a time of 6:00.089, which was more than three seconds faster than the next finisher.

The Gophers improved their time to 5:59.780 in the afternoon session to defeat Oklahoma, Tennessee and Alabama, before concluding competition at the event with a third-place finished behind nationally-ranked Yale and Notre Dame, and ahead of UCF, with a time of 6:02.606.
Minnesota last earned Big Ten Boat of the Week honors on March 26, 2013.

The Gophers will look to build upon their success when they return to Knoxville next weekend to take on the University of Tennessee.
