ROSEMONT, Ill.- Aurora, Colo. native and Minnesota women's gymnastics junior Lindsay Mable has been named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week for the fourth consecutive week and sixth time this season as announced by the league office this afternoon. Mable sits atop the all-around national rankings with an average score of 39.585 for the second straight week. She is the first gymnast in Golden Gopher history to hold the No. 1 ranking.
With last week's Big Ten Gymnast of the Week accolade, Mable became the first Minnesota gymnast in school history to pick up five weekly conference laurels in a season since the award started recognizing student-athletes on a weekly basis in 1999. Gopher great Laura Johnson earned the award four times in 2006.
The award also marks the fourteenth weekly honor of Mable's storied collegiate career and the 26thGymnast of the Week accolade for the Gophers in the 17 years the award has been presented. Mable is the ninth different Gopher to earn the award and she earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week six times in 2013. She is one of three gymnasts in 2015 to repeat as a weekly honor recipient.
This past weekend, the Colorado Gymnastics Institute alumnae led the Gophers with three individual event titles and the all-around crown. Mable has now secured ten all-around crowns this season and set a school record for all-around score on 39.675 on Feb. 14. On Saturday, Mable turned in scores of 9.900 on three events including vault, uneven bars and balance beam where she earned two of her three event titles. Mable was the final gymnast to compete on floor exercise during the meet and tallied a 9.950 to cap another successful individual performance. With three event wins on the evening, Mable tied her season record of 25 event wins which she set last year.
In 2014, Mable registered 25 event wins and 10 all-around titles in 14 team meets before winning the all-around at the Minneapolis NCAA Regional to qualify for the national all-around competition. The two-time All-American is a two-time First Team All-Big Ten selection and was named to the 2015 Preseason Big Ten Gymnasts to Watch list prior to the start of the 2015 season. Mable has also earned Academic All-Big Ten and Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors last academic year.
