Wildcats Snap Minnesota's Streak

MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 61 Minnesota women's tennis team saw its four-match winning streak come to an end with a 7-0 loss to No. 23 Northwestern Saturday outdoors at the Baseline Tennis Center. The Gophers fell to 15-7 on the year and 5-3 in the Big Ten.
The loss was Minnesota's second in 10 home matches this season.
NU got off to a strong start in doubles as 70th-ranked Rheeya Doshi and Brooke Rischbieth and Lok Sze Leung and Alex Chatt won at the second and third positions, respectively, to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
In singles, Northwestern made it 2-0 with a Chatt win at the third postion and sealed the win with a Sze Leung win at No. 4 and an Erin Larner triumph at No. 2.Â
To complete the sweep, Rischbieth defeated Paula Rincon-Otero at No. 6, Alicia Barnett took the win at the No. 1 spot with a victory over Tereza Brichacova after the Gopher senior forced a super tiebreaker and a Doshi win in three sets at No. 5.
The Gophers conclude their weekend Sunday at home against No. 58 Illinois.
