MINNEAPOLIS -- The No. 15/11 Minnesota softball team erased a 2-0 deficit with an eight-run fourth inning to defeat Northwestern, 10-2, in five innings Saturday afternoon. The win was the 100th for the Gophers at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium and improved their record to 32-7 with an 8-3 Big Ten mark.

Kylie Stober pitched a complete game to earn her seventh win of the season. She struck out five. At the plate, Paige Palkovich and Sara Groenewegen hit home runs and Palkovich, Tyler Walker and Sam Macken turned in multi-hit performances.

Following a scoreless first inning, NU got on the board first with an Amy Letourneau solo home run. NU scratched across another run in the third, but the Gophers stormed back in the next frame.

With the Maroon and Gold behind by two, Hannah Granger singled home Ellie Cowger from second. Two batters later, Erica Meyerdrove in the tying run. The ensuing Minnesota hitter, Palkovich, gave her team the lead for good with a three-run home run that made it 5-2. Groenewegen later followed a Kaitlyn Richardson RBI ground out with a two-run shot of her own to make it 8-2.

After Stober forced the Wildcats to strand their seventh and eighth runners of the afternoon in the top of the fifth, RBI hits by Palkovich and Walker in the bottom of the stanza ended the game.

The run-rule win was Minnesota's 12th of the season, surpassing last year's total of 11.

The Gophers and Northwestern conclude their weekend series Sunday at noon. Minnesota wraps up a seven-game home stand Wednesday against South Dakota before hitting the road to play Michigan State.
