ROSEMONT, Ill. -- First-year Minnesota softball student-athlete Danielle Parlich was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the conference announced Monday. The honor was the seventh weekly league honor awarded to a Gopher this season.
Parlich helped guide Minnesota to its first sweep in a series of three or more games against Northwestern last weekend. The Maroon and Gold is now 33-7 on the season, including 9-3 in the Big Ten.Â
The Queen Creek, Ariz. native tied for the conference lead with a .750 batting average, while registering a .778 on-base percentage and a 1.250 slugging percentage. Two of the six runs Parlich drove in on the weekend proved to be game-winners. She had at least a hit and a run in each game and now leads the Gophers with a .415 season average. Her home run in Friday's win was the first of her career.Â
On the season, Parlich has reached base in 37 of the team's first 40 games including a team-best streak of 19 games--she has also had a 14-game hit streak and has been involved in 10 double plays in the field.
Minnesota resumes play Wednesday at 6 p.m. against South Dakota as it wraps up a seven-game homestand at Jane Sage Cowles Stadium. The Gophers continue their Big Ten schedule this weekend with a trip to Michigan State.
