MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- Gopher Hockey senior Sam Warning has signed an amateur try-out agreement with the Hershey Bears in the American Hockey League.
The Chesterfield, Mo., native is the fourth Minnesota alum on the Hershey roster with fellow senior Travis Boyd signing an amateur try-out agreement and a two-year entry level contract with the Washington Capitals late last month and Gopher Hockey alums Nate Schmidt and Jim O'Brien already on roster.
Warning skated in 146 career games at the University of Minnesota with 97 points (40 goals, 57 assists) and was part of the first class in Minnesota's modern era to win four-straight regular-season conference championships. He also helped the Gophers to four-straight NCAA tournament appearances and a pair of NCAA Frozen Four berths while no team in the nation had more wins over the last four years than Minnesota with 105.
As a senior, Warning tallied 24 points (12 goals, 12 assists) while playing in all 39 games and helping the Gophers win the 2015 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament -- the Maroon & Gold's first conference playoff title since 2007.
Warning's junior season proved to be his best as the forward tallied career highs in points (34), goals (14) and assists (20) to finish second on the team in scoring. He earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention and was also a member of the NCAA Frozen Four All-Tournament Team after recording points in 12-straight games to open the 2013-14 season. Â
As a sophomore, Warning skated in 29 games with 23 points (eight goals, 15 assists) while he totaled 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) as a freshman.
A four-year letter winner for the Maroon & Gold, Warning was a three-time academic all-conference honoree (two in the Big Ten, one in the WCHA).
