Clemson, S.C. - The University of Minnesota women's rowing team wrapped competition on the first day of the Clemson Invite Saturday, with the Gophers' First Varsity Four boat of Meredith Kelly, Joyce Jollands, Lauren Gonsalves, Catherine Ahrens and Anna Cruse pacing the Maroon and Gold with a pair of third-place finishes in their two races.

The 1V4 defeated Oregon State, Clemson and Tennessee in the morning session with a time of 7:37.1, before crossing ahead of Gonzaga, UCLA, Dartmouth and Cornell in the afternoon session with a time of 7:32.3. Washington State won the first event in 7:29.5 and Virginia picked up the win in the afternoon in 7:18.8.

The Second Varsity Eight of Armonia Balch, Tabitha Andelin, Kersten Schwanz, Haley Bagley, Anna Greene, Lauren Miller, Bee Lovick and McKenzie Lukacs added two fourth-place finishes on the day, as it posted a time of 6:57.4 in the morning session to finish ahead of Clemson, Tennessee and Bucknell and a time of 6:48.2 in the afternoon session to come in ahead of Cornell, Dartmouth and Gonzaga. Washington State and Virginia won the pair of races in 6:44.5 and 6:32.0, respectively.

Minnesota's No. 20-ranked First Varsity Eight of Taylor Gainey, Lisa Weeks, Madison Koch, Rebecca Braak, Lynn Hodnett, Sara Scarbro, Brianna Boileau, Jessica Flakne and Kylie Andersen finished sixth in each of its races on Lake Hartwell. The Gophers notched a time of 6:53.1 to open the day behind No. 10 Washington State (6:30.0), No. 14 Texas (6:31.1), No. 18 Oregon State (6:43.5), Clemson (6:46.2) and Bucknell (6:52.6) and ahead of Tennessee, and finished with a time of 6:41.7 in the afternoon session behind No. 4 Virginia, No. 14 Texas, No. 19 Gonzaga, Cornell and No. 16 UCLA. Minnesota crossed ahead of Darmouth.

The Gophers conclude action in the Clemson Invite Sunday morning beginning at 7 a.m. CT.
