EAST LANSING, Mich.- The No. 13/10 Minnesota softball team won its sixth-consecutive game Saturday, defeating Michigan State, 7-1, at Secchia Stadium in East Lansing, Mich. The Gophers improved to 36-7 on the year and 11-3 in the Big Ten with the win.

Nikki Anderson pitched 6.1 shutout innings, allowing just four base runners, to earn her seventh win of the season and second in as many days. Sam Macken, Sara Groenewegen and Taylor LeMay had two hits apiece in the game.

The game began with the teams exchanging runs in the first inning. Groenewegen putMinnesota on the board with an RBI single, but the Spartans answered with a solo home run from Stephanie Sanders in the bottom of the frame.

The score went unchanged until a fourth-inning MSU miscue allowed the Gophers to put runners on second and third. LeMay capitalized in the ensuing at bat with a two-run single. Erica Meyer went on to bring LeMay home and Meyer made it a 5-1 game when she came home on the Spartans' second error of the inning.

The Gophers tacked on two runs in the sixth with a LeMay RBI double and an RBI single by Paige Palkovich.

With the win, Minnesota improved to 16-1 in road games this season. The Gophers are now tied for the national lead in road wins and are one road win shy of tying their program record, set in 2013.

The teams will wrap up their weekend seriesSunday. The first pitch is slated for 11 a.m. CT after the game was moved up due to inclement weather in the forecast.
