MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) -- The University of Minnesota men's track & field program returns to action this weekend at the 2015 Stanford Invitational with more than 3,300 athletes and 109 schools set to compete in the 40th annual event at Cobb Track & Angell Field in Stanford, Calif.Â
The weekend meet kicks off on Friday, April 3 (field events at 9 a.m. PT, track events at 10:22 a.m.) and concludes on Saturday, April 4 (field: 9 a.m., track: 9:52 a.m.).Â
Two Meets, Two Records
The Gophers closed out the indoor season and opened the outdoor season with a pair of school record-setting performances from Luca Wieland in the heptathlon and Gian Ferretti in the hammer throw.Â
Wieland, who originally broke the school record to win the Big Ten title, re-set his record at 6,070 to win the NCAA title at 6,070 in mid March. The performance was the eighth-highest point total ever by a collegiate athlete while his two-point win was the closest in NCAA meet history.Â
Less than a week later, Ferretti won the 2015 Baldy Castillo Invitational hammer title with a new school record of 68.94 meters (226-02 ft.). The performance ranks first in the nation currently while Ferretti was honored as the Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week for his performance.Â
Recap: 2015 Baldy Castillo Invitational
Minnesota is coming off a week off from competition after opening the outdoor season at the 2015 Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The Gophers finished third as a team at the event with 72 points behind Texas A&M's 187 and Arizona State's 78.
Along with Ferretti's record-setting win in the hammer throw, the Gophers also picked up a title in the 800 meters from sophomore Bradley Johnson (1:50.35). Â Â

Goaner Deng finished sixth overall in the 800 meters (1:49.59) and eighth in the 400 meters (47.67) while Jordan Charles came in sixth in the triple jump (14.22 meters, 46-08.00 ft.).Â
