Gophers on M.A.G.I.C. Bus
4/8/2015 12:00:00 AM | Student-Athlete Development

Some of you Gopher fans have seen our M.A.G.I.C. bus (Maroon and Gold Impacting the Community) visiting your schools, neighborhoods or communities. When you look at the bus, did you ever wonder how 12 of our 750 student-athletes receive the honor of being on the side of the bus? In a four-part series, we feature student-athletes who have given back and represented their program in a positive way. The last group recognized hails from women's swimming & diving, men's hockey and women's track & field and cross country.
Women's Swimming & Diving: Jessica Ramberg (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS)
Since her arrival on campus in 2010, Jessica Ramberg has been very active in and out of the pool. The junior diver has put in over 183 community service hours, along with competing at the Big Ten and NCAA level. Ramberg was one of a few Gophers that went on the Gopher Global trip to the Cheyenne River Reservation this past summer. She has also assisted at Gopher Athletic community service events such as Second Harvest Heartland, Playworks and Kidstop. Along with her M.A.G.I.C. hours, she has volunteered on her own at the Eagle Brook Church, Highland Friendship Club and the Minnesota Fringe Festival. Thanks Jessica for your continued work in M.A.G.I.C. and the community.
Men's Hockey: A.J. Michaelson (Apple Valley, Minn./Apple Valley HS)
A.J. Michaelson has given an all-out effort both on and off the ice for the Gopher men's hockey program. Since becoming a Gopher in 2010, Michaelson has volunteered for over 50 hours with M.A.G.I.C.. On his own, Michaelson volunteered at Southview Elementary and helped out with the Lakeville South Bantam hockey practices. With M.A.G.I.C., Michaelson assisted with Feed My Starving Children, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, the American Heart Society and toy drives during the holiday season. Thank you A.J. for your outreach efforts.
Women's Cross Country and Track & Field: Stacey Swatek (Wisconsin Dells, Wis./Wisconsin Dells HS)
A standout mid-distance runner for the women's cross country and track & field team, Swatek also excels outside of competition as well. After beginning her Gopher career in 2010, Swatek has volunteered for over 120 hours with M.A.G.I.C. A pillar in the M.A.G.I.C. program, Swatek has contributed time with Playworks, American Red Cross, Hearts for Hammers and countless hours at elementary schools. She has also been a recent visitor at Camp Odayin (camp for children with heart disease). Along with her M.A.G.I.C. hours, she has also volunteered on her own at Feed My Starving Children, Minneapolis Transition Charter School and assisted HopeKids events. Thank you Stacey for your wiliness to volunteer.
