Coaches Earn Regional Recognition

NORMAN, Okla. -- Minnesota head coach Mike Burns and assistant coaches Russ Fystrom and Kostya Kolesnikov were honored at the 2015 NCAA/CGA Men's Gymnastics Awards Banquet held in Norman, Okla. last night. Burns, in his 11th year of coaching at the University of Minnesota, was pegged as the CGA Central Region Head Coach of the Year while his assistants picked up CGA Central Region Assistant Coaches of the Year honors.

The Gophers, led by Burns, will participate in the first session of the NCAA National Qualifier today at 1 p.m. CT. The Maroon and Gold will vie for a spot in the NCAA Team Finals to be held on Friday evening. In Burns' eleven year tenure, the Maroon and Gold have only qualified for the team finals once (2007). Last season, junior Ellis Mannon became the Gophers' first NCAA champion under Burns' direction.
