Gophers Place Fifth at B1G Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- With 88 total points, the University of Minnesota women's rowing team placed fifth at the 2015 Big Ten Rowing Championships Sunday morning at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. Rebecca Braak earned All-Big Ten First Team honors, while Lynn Hodnett earned a spot on the All-Big Ten Second Team. Brianna Boileau was the Gophers' Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.
Six of the Maroon and Gold's seven boats competed in Grand Finals on Sunday, with the First Varsity Eight placing fifth in the first final of the day with a time of 7:01.378. The Gophers got off to a great start, as they were in second place through the first 500 meters of the race. But, the boat lost steam in the second leg of the event and fell back to fifth place, where it would finish. No. 1 Ohio State won the race in 6:42.111, followed by No. 12 Michigan, No. 13 Indiana and No. 8 Wisconsin.
The 2V8 and 2V4 boats also finished fifth in their respective finals with times of 7:10.565 and 8:21.909, while the 3V4 notched the top finish of the day for the Maroon and Gold with a fourth-place showing in 8:54.809. Â
Minnesota's 1V4 secured a sixth-place finish with a time of 8:32.739 and the Gophers' two novice boats each placed seventh in their events with times of 7:53.639 and 8:52.983, respectively.
