Murgic Sets Career Best to Lead Gophers

SAINT PAUL, Minn. -- Senior Katie Murgic moved into sole possession of fourth place among all-time Gopher pole vaulters with a career-best mark of 4.15 meters (13-07.25) as members of the Minnesota women's track & field team competed at the Meet of the Un-Saintly hosted by Hamline University Saturday afternoon.
Murgic finished as the runner-up at the meet with her new career-best mark, taking second to former Gopher Samantha Sonnenberg, who cleared 4.30m while competing unattached.
The Gophers had four of the top six finishes in the pole vault as Cami Gilson was third at 3.85m (12-07.50). Fellow Gophers Allie Funk and Macy Narr competed unattached with Funk tying her career best at 3.55m (11-07.75) for fourth place, and Narr finishing sixth (3.25m, 10-08.00).
Eight other Gophers competed unattached at the meet as well. Katerina Gasteratou won the high jump with an outdoor career-best mark of 1.66m (5-05.25), and Kiley Sabin won both the shot put (13.53m, 44-04.75) and the discus (46.82m, 153-07).
Gopher freshmen Lindsey Smits and Bolade Jinadu set career-best marks in their respective events. Smiths finished second in the 400m hurdles in 1:04.75, and Jinadu placed third in the 400m at 57.76.
The Gophers are also in action this weekend at the Musco Twilight meet hosted by Iowa on Saturday evening.
