Gophersports.com caught up with incoming freshman, Grand Rapids, Mich. native, Rachel Cutler about what she's most looking forward to this coming season both on and off the competition floor.

How did you get into gymnastics?
My mom started me in a little tots class when I was 3 years old.

Did you play any other sports growing up?
I did dance and swimming when I was younger.

Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
I knew I would have the time of my life with these girls as my teammates!

Have you chosen a major or leaning towards a specific area of study?
No, not yet.

What do you like to do in your free time when you're not training in the gym?
Go shopping, watch Netflix and go to the beach.

What are you most looking forward to as a UMN gymnast?
All of the great opportunities I'll have with the team and traveling together.

Who was your athletic role model growing up?
Carly Patterson

What's your favorite part about gymnastics? Do you have a favorite apparatus?
I like floor because I like dancing and performing. I love the feeling that I can do things that others can't.

What type of music most pumps you up for competition?
Hip-hop music

What are the biggest differences between Minnesota and your home state of Michigan?
There's honestly not that much of a difference between the two states haha. Maybe the biggest thing would be Lake Michigan, and not being able to go there every weekend.

Do you have any pre-competition rituals or superstitions?
Not really, I guess I don't like talking very much before competitions.

You traveled on two trips out of the country for Region 5 All-Star competitions. Where did you go and what was the most memorable part of each trip?
I went to London and Belgium in 2013 and the Dominican Republic in 2014. In Belgium, we got to go watch the World Gymnastics Championships, so that was super awesome to see and in the Dominican, we had the opportunity to train with the gymnasts that lived there. It was super cool to see the different cultures and everything.
