Evan Kaufmann Announces Retirement

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Gopher Hockey alum Evan Kaufmann has announced his retirement from professional hockey following a seven-year career in the German Ice Hockey League (Deutsche Eishockey Liga, DEL).
A four-year letter winner for the Gophers, Kaufmann helped the Maroon & Gold reach the 2005 NCAA Frozen Four as a freshman before adding his first of two WCHA regular-season titles in 2006. Minnesota repeated as MacNaughton Cup champions in 2007 and also added the 2007 Broadmoor Trophy that season as WCHA Final Five champions.
Kaufmann served as an alternate captain as a senior in 2007-08 and ended his college career with 62 points (32 goals, 30 assists) in 147 games. He was named the team's John Mayasich Outstanding Student-Athlete Award winner as a senior and the Dr. V. George Nagobads Unsung Hero Award winner as a junior.
Kaufmann split his professional career between the DEG Metro Stars and the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the DEL and collected 226 regular-season points (92 goals, 134 assists) in 315 career games. He added 25 points (14 goals, 11 assists) in 49 playoff games. The Plymouth, Minn., native also skated for the Germany National Team at the 2012 IIHF World Championships in Finland and Sweden, playing in all seven games with one assist.
