The University of Minnesota rowing head coach Wendy Davis has announced the hiring of Claudia Herpertz as a member of the Golden Gopher Rowing coaching staff. Herpertz, who will serve as the Gopher novice coach, will begin coaching immediately.

"Claudia will find and develop the novice athletes into aggressive, hard charging novices first, who will then be in position to become aggressive, hard charging varsity rowers," Davis said. "And, being an international athlete herself, Claudia will spearhead our efforts to bring in top internationals to enhance the rowing experience for everyone."

As a graduate assistant coach for her alma mater, Ohio State University, Herpertz helped the Buckeyes win their third-consecutive national title, with the first varsity four placing seventh and fifth in 2014 and 2015, consecutively. At Big Tens (2014-15), all three varsity fours won their respective events. Under Herpertz, five student-athletes were named All-Americans, with one athlete collecting Ohio State Female Athlete of the Year and Big Ten Rowing Athlete of the Year honors.

Prior to her two seasons coaching at OSU, Herpertz served as an assistant coach for the Three Rivers Rowing Association in Pittsburg, Penn. While there, she coached the men's junior team to a first-place finish at the 2013 Midwest Championships and second-place finishes at the 2013 Youth National Championships and at trials for the 2013 World Junior Championships. While with Three Rivers, Herpertz also served as the head coach for the experienced junior/college summer program, and worked with the women's masters program - a summer corporate program and winter rowing fitness class.

During her time as a student-athlete at Ohio State (2009-2012), Herpertz was a four-year letter winner and a member of the First Varsity Eight. She played an essential role in winning the 2011 Big Ten Championship, helping to earn the program's third conference title. As a Buckeye, she also earned Second Team All-Big Ten, CRCA National Scholar Athlete, and OSU Scholar-Athlete honors.

Herpertz graduated from Ohio State with a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in neuroscience. She stayed at OSU and earned her master's degree in sport management.

A native of Meissen, Germany, she was a member of the German Rowing National team and competed internationally for Team Germany from 2006-08. Herpertz is fluent in German and earned her high school diploma in Meissen.
