Gophers infielder Micah Coffey and the Kenosha Kingfish captured the Northwoods League crown after defeating the St. Cloud Rox twice in the best-of-three series over the weekend. The Kingfish took the first game 6-4 at St. Cloud before returning home for an 8-1 championship victory.

Minnesota had four players in total participate in the Northwoods League Collegiate World Series with Coffey was the lone representative of the Gophers baseball program on Kenosha's roster. Austin Athmann, Lucas Gilbreath and Brian Glowicki were members of the St. Cloud contingent who finished second.

After joining mid-season from the Midwest Collegiate League, Coffey hit .298 with four doubles and six RBI. The Batavia, Ill. also slugged at a .400 clip in 14 appearances for the Kingfish.

Coffey began his stint with Kenosha with a six-game hitting streak that featured four contests of at least two hits. The infielder also touted a .932 fielding percentage through 55 defensive chances.

In total, the Gophers had the most representatives of any collegiate baseball program in the Northwoods League with 24 players making rosters.
