Minnesota wrapped non-season summer competition as two divers, and one alumna, competed at the 2015 AT&T National Diving Championships in Orlando, Florida this past week.
Junior Lexi Tenenbaum competed in the women's platform event, finishing eleventh overall with a total of 238.60 points. Tenenbaum made the cut through the preliminary rounds and semifinals to compete with former teammate Sarah McCrady. McCrady placed fourth in the event with 297.75 points.
Manny Pollard, a senior diver for the Gophers, finished fifth in the preliminary rounds of the men's platform diving event (333.20 points). Pollard ended up placing 16th in the semifinals with a score of 275.05.
The Golden Gophers will add four divers to their rosters in the 2015-16 season. Alan LeBlang will be a freshman for the men's program, while newcomers Mariam Khamis, Elizabeth Click and Morgan Justus are set to join the women's team. Minnesota diving is coming off a record-breaking season after qualifying a nation-high eight divers (four women, four men) for their respective NCAA Championships. Yu Zhou became the three-meter national champion with 410.25 points after earning bronze in one-meter diving the night before. Zhou went on to place fifth on platform, and was the only diver at the meet to place in the top-five in every event earning her the NCAA Diver of the Year award by the CSCAA. Wenbo Chen was also named NCAA Diving Coach of the Year. At the men's meet, Matt Barnard earned bronze on platform at the NCAA Championships and broke the Minnesota school record with a score of 473.80. Both Zhou and Barnard will return for the junior seasons for Minnesota this fall.
Also, happy belated birthday to head diving coach Wenbo Chen!
