Future Freshman: Erin Buck

Freestyle and backstroke swimmer Erin Buck will begin her freshman season as a Gopher this fall. Buck hails from Maple Grove Senior High and Minnetonka Swim Club. She's qualified for six-straight state meets, highlighted by All-State performances in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay. Buck holds Maple Grove records in the 200 free, 100 fly and 400 free relay along with pool records in the 100 fly and 200 IM. She is also a former high school teammate of diver Lexi Tenenbaum. Buck's favorite event is the 50 back.
GopherSports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Erin Buck: The team and coaches are wonderful and super welcoming. I really felt at home with everybody. The school also has great academics and resources available.
GopherSports: What are you looking forward to the most with starting your collegiate career as a Golden Gopher?
Buck: I look forward to being a part of such an amazing, tight knit team and getting to compete alongside my friends and teammates.
GopherSports: Thus far, what has been your best or proudest swimming memory?
Buck: My 200-yard free race at state finals during my senior year of high school swimming. I got a best time, and just had the biggest smile on my face. My coach was very supportive and it was so amazing to share with him and my teammates.
GopherSports: What do you like to do for fun outside of the pool?
Buck: I really enjoy spending time with my friends, and my cats. I also like watching Netflix, and I'm currently learning to play guitar.
GopherSports: How do you think you will contribute to the Gopher swimming and diving program?
Buck: I want to bring a fun, positive attitude to the team and focus not only on myself, but supporting and encouraging my teammates.
