North Dakota's top recruit Dani Bergeson is set to begin her freshman campaign for the Golden Gophers. She joins Minnesota from her hometown of Bismarck, North Dakota where she competed for Century High School and Aquastorm. Bergeson, a backstroke swimmer, is a seven-time individual high school state champion and four-time relay high school state champion. She holds state records in the 100-yard backstroke and 200-medley relay, as well as seven Century High School Records. Her favorite race is either the 50-yard backstroke or 200-yard IM.

GopherSports: Why did you choose the University of Minnesota?
Dani Bergeson: I chose the University of Minnesota because it has such a great swimming program with such a fun team and coaching staff! The campus is also huge with lots to do and a lot to get involved in.

GopherSports: What are you looking forward to the most with starting your collegiate career as a Golden Gopher?
Bergeson: I'm mostly looking forward to being a part of a talented team. I am excited to start training and getting to know everyone!

GopherSports: Thus far, what has been your best or most proud swimming memory?
Bergeson: One of my best moments was when my high school medley relay won state and broke the state record. We were not expected to win which made that moment even better! We trained really hard all season and it was definitely worth it.

GopherSports: What do you like to do for fun outside of the pool?
Bergeson: I love to hang out with friends, be outside, and watch movies.

GopherSports: How do you think you will contribute to the Gopher swimming and diving program?
Bergeson: I hope to contribute a hard-working and positive attitude!
