No. 23 Gophers to Host No. 25 Terrapins

MINNEAPOLIS - The No. 23-ranked University of Minnesota women's gymnastics team will face No. 25 Maryland this Saturday at the Sports Pavilion with the first rotation set to begin promptly at 4:00 p.m.

* SPECIAL NOTE: For the 2016 season, all posted times on the schedule are when the first rotation will begin. In the past, posted times signified lineups. Please plan accordingly to be sure not to miss any of the Maroon and Gold.

THE OPPONENT
The Terrapins enter the weekend ranked No. 25 in the national poll as released by RoadToNationals.com. Last Sunday, the team participated in a Quad-Meet in which they defeated Pittsburgh (191.050) and Towson (192.775) with a final tally of 194.400 but fell to Eastern Michigan (194.875).

Maryland is currently tied for sixth nationally on bars after the team posted a 49.125. No gymnast tallied a score under 9.750. The Terps also sit at No. 19 nationally on beam with a team score of 48.600.

During the 2014-15 season, Minnesota traveled to College Park, Md. and fell to the Terps 194.325-193.250 in the team's first-ever league win as members of the Big Ten Conference.

Senior Lindsay Mable walked away with three event titles on the evening - vault (9.875), floor (9.900) and the all-around (38.850).

LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday, the Gophers opened the 2016 season with a victory at home over the Iowa State Cyclones, 194.700-194.025.

As a team, the Maroon and Gold claimed vault (49.050), uneven bars (48.550) and floor (48.700) and tied the Cyclones on beam with identical scores of 48.400.

Mable earned the all-around crown with a final tally of 38.900 and notched a 9.900 and 9.850 on vault and beam, respectively. Senior Madeline Hanley won the uneven bars title with a mark of 9.850.

Junior Rachel Haines finished in third place on vault with a 9.825 and fellow junior, Bailie Holst, tied for second on bars after earning a 9.825.

On floor, Mable and Holst earned second and third place marks after tallying a 9.800 and a 9.775, respectively.

GOPHERS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The national rankings have the Maroon and Gold at No. 9 in the country on vault with a team score of 49.050. On floor, the team is No. 24 (48.700), tied for No. 26 on beam (48.400) and with a score of 48.550, Minnesota is No. 32 on the uneven bars.

Event champions from this past weekend, Mable and Hanley, both find themselves ranked nationally.

Mable is tied for fifth in the nation on vault after an impressive 9.900 performance vs. Iowa State. The Aurora, Colo. native is also tied for 26th on beam and tied for No. 41 in the all-around. Hanley, Danielsville, Pa. native, is currently slated 22nd in the nation on bars.

Sophomore Ciara Gardner is tied at No. 47 in the all-around after notching a 38.775 last weekend.

LOOKING AHEAD
For the final stint at home in a four-meet homestand, the Gophers will host the Spartans of Michigan State on Saturday, Jan. 23 at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Jan. 30, the Maroon and Gold will travel for the first away meet of 2016 to Columbus, Ohio for a B1G match-up with the Buckeyes.
