Pentathletes Rewrite All-Time Top-10

MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gopher women's track & field team won two event titles and the pentathletes rewrote the program's all-time top-10 list on day one of the Jack Johnson Classic at the Minnesota Fieldhouse Friday.
Erin Hawkins and Kimberly Golding won their respective events as Hawkins made her 2016 debut with a win in the 200-meter dash, clocking a time of 24.77 seconds. Meanwhile, Golding made her long jump debut with a winning leap of 5.79m (19-00). Fellow Gophers Emma Spagnola (5.69m, 18-08) and Kelly Flynn (5.37m, 17-07.50) recorded season-best marks in the long jump to place second and 10th, respectively.
In the pentathlon, the Gophers earned four top-seven finishes with all four scores landing among the program's all-time top-10 marks. Alex Beckman scored a career-best 3,749 to place fourth and move into third all-time. Sofie Albrechtsen made her collegiate pentathlon debut with 3,747 points for fifth place and fourth all-time, and Audra Winter was close behind with a career-high 3,728 points for sixth at the meet and fifth all-time. Amanda Beckman scored a career-beset 3,624 points for seventh and now ranks 10th all-time as well.
Alex Beckman cleared a career-best 1.69m (5-6.50) to place fourth in the pentathlon high jump. She also took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.92 seconds) and shot put (12.39m, 40-7.75).
Albrechtsen won the high jump (1.75m, 5-8.75) and tied for first in the shot put (12.83m, 42-1.25) en route to her fifth-place finish in her collegiate pentathlon debut (3,747).
Winter used career-bests in high jump (1.72m, 5-7.75), shot put (11.89m, 39-0.25), and the 800-meter run (2:29.80) to score 3,728 points for sixth place in the Jack Johnson Classic pentathlon. She placed third in the pentathlon high jump and fifth in the shot put along with her career-best marks.
Amanda Beckman recorded a career-best leap of 5.73m (18-9.75) to win the pentathlon long jump. She also tied for sixth in the high jump (1.60m, 5-3) and took seventh in the shot put (11.25m, 36-11) on the way to her career-best 3,624 points.
Competing unattached, Emily Betz placed fifth to lead the Gophers in the 5,000-meter run (17:51.79). Likewise, Lexi Kiefer led Minnesota in the pole vault, clearing a collegiate-best 3.90m (12-09.50) for seventh place while competing unattached.
Action at the Jack Johnson Classic continues all day Saturday beginning with field events at 9:30 a.m. Running events get underway at 10:45 a.m. with championship heats set for 2 p.m. at the Minnesota Fieldhouse.
