Justin Doeden returned to his home state of Minnesota to golf for the Gophers after spending two years playing for Cardinal Stritch. He had arguably the best fall season of any Gopher, playing in all four fall tournaments and leading the team in scoring average.

GopherSports.com connected with Doeden to ask him some questions about his fall season, the upcoming spring season, and the break in between.

What was it like to return to your home state to golf for the Gophers?
Returning to my home state to play as a Golden Gopher has been a dream come true. Playing in front of my family with the "M" on my shirt is something that I have wanted when I first picked up this game.

You earned some experience playing at the number 1 spot for the Gophers this fall, what did that mean to you?
Playing number 1 for the Gophers is something I do not take for granted. This position is something I have worked very hard for and hope to continue to hold for time to come. To me, this is recognition of the hard work I have put in off the course when no one is looking.

You led the team in scoring average this fall, what went right for you during those competitions?
Throughout this fall the biggest that clicked well for me was adapting to the different course conditions quickly that we have come across traveling to different parts of the country.

What was the best moment of the fall season for you?
Best moment of this fall season for me was shooting 65 at The Meadow Club in California. This is my lowest round in a college tournament and as a Gopher.

Is there any aspect of your game that you would like to improve before the spring season starts?
I am working hard on my putting before the Spring starts. I really need to improve my green reading ability and making more of those 12-15 foot putts that Jordan Spieth is so good at.

Are you going to get out on any courses during your break?
Yes, I am currently down in Hilton Head, South Carolina. I will be playing Colleton River Plantation Club as well as Harbor Town which hosts the RBC Heritage PGA Tour event.

What non-golf related activities will you be doing over the course of your break?
I am a hockey fan, so I will go to a Wild hockey game and I went to watch the Gopher guys team play in the Mariucci Classic. Outdoor skating with friends. Bowling with the family.

What New Year's resolutions did you make this year?
Improve as a golfer. Learn from my mistakes and Cherish my family time.
