Gophers Drop Overtime Border Battle

The University of Minnesota soccer team fell in overtime to Wisconsin in a 1-0 decision on Saturday evening at the Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The Gophers record moves to 9-3-1 on the season, and 3-1-1 in Big Ten Conference play.
Minnesota and Wisconsin went scoreless through 90 minutes to enter golden goal overtime.
Badger Dani Rhodes scored in the 99th minute of play to give Wisconsin the win.
The Gophers posted eight shots with three on goal, and had nine corner kick opportunities.
It was a physical match with 31 total fouls, 19 from Wisconsin. The Badgers were also issued two yellow cards. Simone Kolander led the team with two shots, one on goal.
The all-time border battle series now stands at 15-12-1, Wisconsin.
"Every moment counts," associate head coach Krystle Seidel said. "We have a lot of soccer left in the season and we'll be moving on."
Minnesota will host Iowa (Oct. 6) and Nebraska (Oct. 9) this week at the Robbie. The Gophers' match against the Hawkeyes is set for 7:00 p.m., while kickoff against the Cornhuskers is slated for 2:00 p.m. Tickets are available at mygophersports.
