Minnesota Wins Blugold Invitational

COLFAX, Wis. - University of Minnesota redshirt sophomoreEllen Snyder won the individual crown to lead the Golden Gopher women's cross country team to the team title at the Blugold Invitational at Whitetail Golf Course on Friday.
Snyder ran a career-best time of 22:34.3 over the six-kilometer course to lead eight Gophers in the top-10 finishers, including two University of Minnesota runners competing unattached. Abby Kohut-Jackson, racing unattached, finished as runner-up in 22:49.7 followed by Carlin Schulz (22:51.2), Emily Castanias (23:01.6), and Samantha Prouty (23:03.5) to make up the top five. Castanias led the Gophers a year ago at the Blugold Invitational, matching her fourth-place overall finish this season.
Megan Flanagan rounded out Minnesota's top five scoring finishers in seventh place overall in 23:05.8, followed by true freshman Lindsey Greenlund, who finished eighth in 23:08.3 racing unattached. Haley Rasmussen (23:10.0) followed in 10th place as the sixth Gopher and Rachel Wians finished in Minnesota's top seven for the first time in her career in 18th overall (23:32.5).
Minnesota scored 16 points to win the team title ahead of runner-up St. Olaf (70), host UW-Eau Claire (89) in third, and Michigan Tech (109) and UW-La Crosse (122) rounding out the top five of the 14-team meet.
In total, 12 Gophers ran career-best times at this year's Blugold Invitational, and another five recorded season-best 6K times.
Minnesota also raced at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday where all 12 Gophers recorded career-best 5K times led by Madeline Strandemo (16:45.7, 18th), Bethany Hasz (17:01.3, 40th), and Megan Hasz (17:01.5, 42nd).
The Gophers now have a week off in preparation for the Wisconsin Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14 and the Tori Neubauer Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 15.
