Zhou, Barnard Named B1G Divers of Week

Golden Gopher seniors Yu Zhou and Matt Barnard have earned Big Ten Diver of the Week honors after their strong performances at the dual meet against Wisconsin last Thursday.
Zhou, the 2016 Big Ten Diver of the Year, captured the win in 1-meter with a score of 316.65, and also finished second in 3-meter behind teammate Lexi Tenenbaum with a score of 340.88. The weekly honor is the 12th of Zhou's career.
Barnard, a returning Big Ten Champion, placed first on the 3-meter board last week with a score of 393.68. He also finished second behind teammate Lucas Cooperman in 1-meter with a score of 348.75. Barnard earns his seventh career weekly conference honor.
Last week, the Gopher divers assisted Minnesota in a split against Wisconsin. The men's team won by a score of 185-115, while the women fell 158-142.
Zhou and Barnard returned to the diving well after standout performances in the 2015-16 campaign. Last year, Zhou earned Big Ten Diver of the Year, Big Ten Diver of the Championships, All-Big Ten honors and All-America honors. She earned Big Ten Titles in the 1-meter (352.45), 3-meter (407.05) and platform (363.20).
During the 2015-16 season, Barnard was a Big Ten champion in the 3-meter (427.55), an All-America honoree and an All-Big Ten honoree.
Follow the Gophers as they host Iowa for Pack the Pool at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center on Oct. 29. The meet begins at 11 a.m. CT.
