The Minnesota women's swimming and diving team beat Iowa 186-114 on Saturday. The Gophers won 11 of 16 events at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

"I think we've got such an incredible conference of swimming and diving," head coach Kelly Kremer said. "We're the best diving conference in the country and we're starting to kind of show that we're the best, if not, certainly among the best conferences, in swimming as well. Anytime you face a Big Ten team, it's going to be a good competition and it's always nice to get a win."

The Gophers opened and closed the meet with relay wins. Tevyn Waddell, Lindsey Horejsi, Danielle Nack and Allison Schumacher took first in the 200 medley relay in 1:41.01. Nack, Zoe Avestruz, Schumacher and Abigail Raatz won the 200 free relay in 1:33.19.

Sarah Bacon won both diving events in her second collegiate meet. She posted a score of 317.85 on the 1-meter board, and 377.10 on the 3-meter board. Lexi Tenenbaum was second in both 1-meter (289.73) and 3-meter (339.23).

In addition to being on both winning relays, Danielle Nack won the 200 and 100 free races. She finished the 200 free in 1:49.30, and the 100 in 50.31. Avestruz was fourth (52.01) in the 100.

Chantal Nack's first of two individual wins was in the 100 backstroke (55.67) to lead a strong race for the Gophers. Her time was a lifetime best. Avestruz (55.85) was second and Katelyn Holmquist (56.99) was fourth.

Minnesota also claimed the win in the 200 back, with Brooke Zeiger posting a 2:02.37. Holmquist (2:05.13) was fourth.

Chantal Nack's second win came in the 500 free, when she touched in an in-season best 4:57.96. Erin Emery (5:04.02) followed in second.

Breanne Siwicki won the 1,650 free in 17:03.62. Emery was second in 17:12.45, and Lauren Lalumiere fourth in 17:29.24.

"I thought the Nack sisters were awesome today," Kremer said. "Chantal was phenomenal. I think those were some lifetime bests for her. Her sister, Danielle, we put her into the freestyles because she's going to be a critical component on our freestyle relays at the end of the year, and she's showing why. She really had a beautiful meet. ...We moved people around on different events, and we hadn't done the 1,650 yet this year. It's great to see Breanne Siwicki closing out her career against Iowa with a win in the 1,650. Those are the ones that kind of stand out, but it was a nice meet for us."

Kierra Smith, who already had an NCAA 200 breaststroke "B" cut in the season-opener, again beat the "B" standard with a 2:13.08 to win. Kaela Marcus (2:19.77) and Rae Bullinger (2:21.86) finished third and fourth.

The Gophers had 2-3-4 finishes in the 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 50 free. In the 100 breast, it was Kierra Smith (1:02.18), Rae Bullinger (1:03.01) and Rachel Munson (1:03.47). Brooke Zeiger (2:03.89), Breanne Siwicki (2:05.09) and Rina Krupsky (2:05.12) scored in the 200 fly. In the 50 free it was Lindsey Horejsi (23.78), Allison Schumacher (23.80) and Abigail Raatz (23.94).

Zeiger (2:02.68) and Madison Preiss (2:07.88) placed second and third in the 200 IM. Schumacher (56.54) was Minnesota's top 100 fly finisher in fourth, with Waddell and Kaia Grobe following.

The Gopher men and women will be back in action in a home dual meet against North Dakota on Nov. 4.
