Minnesota women's gymnastics welcomes eight fresh faces to their roster this season, including seven freshmen and one transfer. Julia Huebert joins the Gophers from her hometown of Overland Park, Kansas. Huebert plans to major in environmental sciences and minor in photography. Get to know Huebert in this Q&A.

Gopher Sports: How did you get into gymnastics?

Julia Huebert: A family friend worked at a gym and thought it would be a fun idea to have my mom and dad do a class with me.

GS: Why did you choose Minnesota?

JH: It had everything I was looking for in a school. I loved the academic programs it offered, the location of the school, and the gymnastics team. From the moment I stepped on campus I knew it was the school for me.

GS: What are your goals for this season?

JH: My goals for this season are to contribute on beam and keep improving my other events. I want to show everyone what I've been working for in the gym!

GS: What have you learned from your time at Minnesota so far?

JH: I've learned a ton these past couple months! Just in general I've had to learn how to live on my own and balance a new schedule. Another important thing I've learned is to "make every day count," and I think this is a great message that I can apply to everything I do, both academically and athletically.

GS: What events do you compete in?

JH: I compete on beam and floor.

GS: Who has been your greatest supporter?

JH: My parents have definitely been my greatest supporters. They've allowed me to follow this crazy dream I had and have always had my back 100% with every decision I've made.

GS: What are you looking forward to this season?

JH: I'm looking forward to getting out on that competition floor with the team. We have such a great group of girls who've all been working so hard in the gym, and I can't wait to show everyone what we can do!

Five Favorites with Julia Huebert:

1. Favorite hobby outside of the gym? Painting and playing the ukulele.

2. Favorite snack? Cereal!

3. Favorite book? I'd say it's a tie between The Girl on the Train and The Cellar.

4. Favorite Olympian? Kyla Ross. Everything she does looks so elegant and effortless.

5. Favorite show to binge watch on Netflix? Pretty much any sitcom, but I'd say my favorite is That 70's Show.
