MINNEAPOLIS - Four Golden Gophers are among the 40 players selected to represent Canada in the two-game December Series with the United States and at the 2017 Nations Cup. Sarah Potomak and Lindsay Agnew join Minnesota alumna Sarah Davis and incoming Gopher Amy Potomak in representing the Red and White, Hockey Canada announced.

S. Potomak and A. Potomak were selected for Canada's National Women's Team to compete against the U.S. in the two-game December Series in Sarnia, Ont., and Plymouth, Mich. The roster includes two goaltenders, seven defensemen, and 13 forwards. Game one is set for 3:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Dec. 17 at the USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Mich., with game two at 6 p.m. CT on Monday, Dec. 19 at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, Ont.

Hockey Canada also announced the roster for Canada's National Women's Development Team for the 2017 Nations Cup in Füssen, Germany and Telfs, Austria. S. Potomak joins Davis and Agnew among the 23 players looking to defend Canada's gold medal. The roster includes two goaltenders, seven defensemen, and 14 forwards.

The Nations Cup, formerly known as the Air Canada Cup, MLP Cup and Meco Cup, brings together Canada's National Women's Development Team and national teams from Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland for a four-day international tournament.

The Nations Cup runs Wednesday, Jan. 4 through Saturday, Jan. 7. Prior to its opening game against the Czech Republic in Füssen, Canada's National Women's Development Team will play a pre-tournament game against Germany on Monday, Jan. 2.

The two teams were selected by Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada's general manager of national women's team programs, with support from Gina Kingsbury, Hockey Canada's director of national women's team programs, Hockey Canada regional scouts and the teams' coaching staff.

"These events mark critical steps in our evaluation process leading into the IIHF Women's World Championship and in deciding Canada's centralization team as we look towards the 2018 Olympic Winter Games," said Davidson. "As we move towards selecting those rosters we will use the December Series and Nations Cup as opportunities to evaluate our players on the international stage."

Following the December Series and 2017 Nations Cup, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2016-17 leading up to the world championship next April in Plymouth, Mich.
