COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. (GopherSports.com) - True freshman Hamza Ali paced the field on Friday afternoon at the Fall Finale as the Minnesota men's cross country program has now won 10-straight individual titles at the eight-kilometer meet.
Running unattached out of Minneapolis, Minn., Ali came across the finish line at 25:31 to lead a pack of four-straight Gophers at the front of the pack. Eight of the top nine finishers were Gophers although seven competed unattached.
Ali, who also won the Twin Cities 5K last month with a Gophers record (14:47), continues a dominant history at the meet by the Maroon & Gold that dates back to David Van Orsdel's win in 2006.
Owen Hoeft added a second-place finish at 25:49 followed by Alec Basten in third at 25:55 and Nick Rink in fourth at 26:05. Eric Colvin clocked a 26:21 to finish sixth followed by Alex Plasencia in seventh at 26:31, Jack Manderscheid in eighth at 26:32 and Hunter Staack in ninth at 26:37.
The Gophers return to action at the NCAA Midwest Regional in Iowa City, Iowa on Friday, Nov. 11.
