The Gophers are way out in the Pacific playing in the Ka'anapali Classic. GopherSports.com received this dispatch from junior Riley Johnson on Friday night.
Man, what an experience we have been having so far in Hawaii. Today was the first round of the tournament. Willy "Goat" Leaf and I were tired around 8:30 last night. As you can imagine, the time difference between Hawaii and Minnesota is pretty extensive. We got around 9 hours of sleep! Waking up well rested, the boys and I were ready to go.
With the sun just rising as we headed to the course, we knew it was going to be a good fun day of competing and having the best time out there. We grinded as a team today, coming back into the scheme of things. The round today took just around 6 hours to play. It was pretty windy, making approach shots just that much tougher. We have 2 rounds to go and can't wait to get out there again.
After the round it was about 3:45 and headed back to the hotel room. Tommy, Doeds, Willy and I took and adventure down to the beach to take on some waves! We were short on time because we had to head out to the luau. For all you Midwesterners that have never heard or been to a luau: Being a college student I feel compelled to site Wikipedia. A luau, according to Wikipedia, is a traditional Hawaiian party or feast that is usually accompanied by entertainment. It may feature food such as poi, kalua pig, poke, lomi salmon, opihi, haupia and beer, and entertainment such as traditional Hawaiian music and hula. I can assure you that the Gophers didn't dance with the hula girls, but Tommy was debating getting up there with his coconut bra and hay skirt.
That sums up the third day in the beautiful state of Hawaii!
