MINNEAPOLIS -- As the Gophers approach the mid-point of the season, senior Megan Wolfe reflects on her career with the Maroon & Gold along with sharing interests off the ice and looking ahead to the future.

Gopher Sports: Which one of your stats are you most proud of?

Megan Wolfe: Probably the plus-47 rating and all-academic team award. I work really hard in school to get the grades that I do, and obviously plus-47 is good for defense so it's an honor, too.

GS: Why is it so hard for a defenseman to get such a good plus/minus?

MW: You're used to being in the d-zone a lot, defending, making sure goals don't go in. I've been able to contribute to the power play so I'm fortunate for that. I think that plays a big impact on that number and also our forwards do well in the offensive zone, so that helps as well.

GS: What is your position and job on the power play?

MW: It has definitely changed throughout the years. This year I'm focusing more around the top but more just getting pucks to the net and making sure we can get goals.

GS: What's the hardest part of running that position?

MW: Knowing when to shoot it and when to pass it. There are obviously times where I can't shoot it because there's someone blocking and depending who's covering who. I just have to make sure I make the right one.

GS: You've had a couple goals in your first series your senior year, how did you feel about that?

MW: I was pretty lucky to get a few in the net. I just hope I can get a few more throughout the year.

GS: You've played in three national championship games and won two of them. Do you have a favorite memory of those experiences?

MW: They've all been different experiences but all been good ones. Obviously winning last year was super fun. Our senior class was one of my favorites. I don't have a favorite, they're all very good memories.

GS: The team lost in the national championship game your freshman year. How did you move past that?

MW: That one definitely hurt, it wasn't the outcome we wanted. But we came back the next year focusing on our goals and accomplished it the next year.

GS: What part of your game have you worked at the hardest to improve or what part of your game are you most pleased with right now?

MW: Obviously coming in my freshman year, I didn't play defense. I would say my overall position at defense has really changed and I've improved a lot there. I would say I've improved a lot on my decision-making from the point.

GS: You came in as a forward, were you a little reluctant to switch to a defensive role and how ready were you for that?

MW: It was definitely a big change because I had never played defense in my life. I thought I wasn't going to be good at this, but I had a lot of help form the people above me and the coaches. It was a good change, and I'm happy I'm there now.

GS: Who was the one who helped you the most through that adjustment?

MW: I would say Baylee Gillanders had a big impact on that just making it a positive experience for me. Also Rachel Ramsey, looking up to her and watching her play because she was such a great player.

GS: What are your future plans?

MW: I'm not sure yet. Hopefully something within marketing, maybe marketing research. Maybe I'll figure out next semester what I want to do. I just want to enjoy my last year of college.

GS: You also enjoy playing golf, are you good?

MW: I've gotten worse because I haven't practiced much. I used to play in high school. I like to go out in the summer with teammates and my family. The best I ever shot I think was a 76.

GS: What other things do you like to do outside of hockey and school?

MW: I like hanging out with the teammates, even when we're not at hockey. I like to go shopping a lot. In the summer I like to go up to the boat and cabin.

GS: Where do you have your cabin?

MW: I personally don't have a cabin but my roommate Kelsey Cline has one. My dad is a big fisherman, so we go on his boat a lot but he usually brings it up to Canada.

GS: Do you do a lot of fishing?

MW: I personally don't. I would rather lay on the boat but I have fished before.

GS: Looking back, what are you going to miss the most about college hockey?

MW: Coming to practice every day, being with the team, and hanging out with the team. Going to practice and games are fun, but hanging out with my teammates off the ice is a good time, too. I'm going to miss coming to the rink every day. It's going to be weird.
