Over 25 University of Minnesota student-athletes spent time with the Shirley G. Moore Laboratory School, Saturday, Feb. 13, 2016 at the Gibson-Nagurski Football Complex.
As a part of their annual Gym Jam festivities, 26 Gopher student-athletes played games and volunteered at various stations, which helped promote healthy activity for young children, ages two-five, and their elementary age siblings.
The attending children walked away with positive experiences, all while having a fun and healthy environment. The event also helps the school raise funds for athletic equipment in their gym as family members have an opportunity to donate.
Student-athletes informally organized and played different sports activities such as football, soccer, ball games, and obstacle courses with a range of children, primarily preschool age children and their siblings.
Gopher participants were: football’s Blake Cashman, Ray Dixon, Hendrick Ekpe, Julien Kafo, Patrick Mayes, Quinn Oseland, Hunter Register, Rashad Still, Damerius Travis and Jaylen Waters, soccer’s April Bockin, Molly Fiedler, Haley Helverson, Emily Heslin, Emily Peterson, Kaliee Sharp and Josee Stiever, women’s track’s Wilsonque Delson, Madalyn Kammer, Nicolle Murphy, Rachel Schow and Taylor Wiebke, women’s golf’s Emie Peronnin, Niamh Ward and Muyu Wu and rowing’s Katrina Hetico.
