Rowing Claims Four First-Place Finishes at Oak Ridge

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Minnesota rowing team capped their first weekend of competition at the Cardinal Invitational.
In the Varsity 4 races, the Gophers' Varsity A improved on two second place finishes Saturday (7:28.232, 7:42.831) and claimed first in a race on Sunday (7:36.050). The Varsity B claimed second and third in two races on Saturday (7:39.824, 7:51.004). They improved and finished first Sunday (7:50.970).
On Saturday, Minnesota's Varsity 8s collected a handful of top-three finishes. The first Varsity 8 finished third in the first race of the day (6:38.978), second later in the day (6:45.301). On Sunday, they finished second in their lone race of the day (6:41.809). The second Varsity 8 finished second (6:39.647) and first (6:40.696) on Saturday. They picked up their second victory of the weekend on Sunday (6:42.254).
Coach Wendy Davis was impressed with the weekend and expects Minnesota to be able to compete nationally all season. "Now we head into our spring break knowing what we need to work on," Davis said. "We have three weeks before the next race weekend and we are looking forward to how things play out."
