Fresh off its 10-day road trip, Minnesota opens its 2016 home slate with a non-conference contest against in-state foe Augsburg on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. inside the confines of Siebert Field.

The Gophers (9-8) ride into the tilt with a Big Ten-leading 202 hits on the season. Minnesota also ranks second among league competition in batting average (.327), slugging percentage (.455) and on-base percentage (.379).

As a staff, the Maroon and Gold hold a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 1.87 through 146.0 innings pitched. The Gophers are limiting opponents to hit just .259 at the plate.

Matt Fiedler and Austin Athmann pace Minnesota offensively with averages with .439 and .434, respectively. Fiedler has recorded 29 hits with five doubles and a home run, while Athmann holds team-highs in doubles (nine), home runs (three) and RBI (15).

On the bump, Fiedler maintains a 3.52 ERA in five games started with 25 strikeouts. Dalton Sawyer is close behind with a 3.71 ERA, but has a club-best 29 strikeouts.

Fans planning to attend the game should be aware that the main parking option for the general public will be the 4th St. ramp. Attendees can either walk 15th Ave. and turn right down 8th St. or take the path that runs behind the Bierman Field Athletic Building near Lot C50 and walk along the back behind the softball complex.

All-Time Series
The Gophers and Auggies will meet for the 50th time in program history on Tuesday. Minnesota has held a distinct advantage in the series at 47-1-1 that dates back to 1930. In the meeting in 2014, the Gophers dropped a 10-spot on the scoreboard in the nine-inning shutout. Dan Motl and Matt Stemper combined for five hits, including two doubles and a triple, to pace the team's 14 hits.

Scouting the Auggies
Augsburg comes into the matchup having won four of its last six games. Josh Marlowe, Mike Brookshaw and Rhett Hebig hold batting clips of .476, .429 and .406, respectively, to lead the offensive attack. Brookshaw has tallied five triples, while Marlowe has notched a pair of home runs. On the mound, starters Jordan Brandt and Jamie Kaye have each made two-plus starts and maintain a sub-5.20 ERA. Brandt is tied for the team lead with nine strikeouts on the season.
