The Golden Gophers opened the 2016 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving today at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Manny Pollard led the Gophers with a 13th-place finish in 1-meter diving after totaling 344.80 points. The senior was named an All-American Honorable Mention for the second-straight year in the event.
Gopher Matt Barnard finished 19th (325.60) on the 1-meter springboard, while Dylan Zoe placed 42nd (268.40).
Jakub Maly tied his Minnesota school record in the 200 IM after posting a time of 1:44.53 and placing 22nd overall.
Rookie Bowe Becker finished 46th in the 50 free with a 20.19.
Minnesota's 200 free relay took 20th overall with Becker, Daryl Turner, Paul Fair and Noah Busch combining for a 1:18.96.
After the first full day of competition, Minnesota is in 28th place.
ACTION CONTINUES
The 2016 NCAA Championships will resume tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. CT with prelims of the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back and 200 medley relay. 3-meter diving prelims will follow at 11:30 a.m. CT. Follow @GopherSwimDive for updated prelims results all day.
