Strandemo, McSherry Lead Gophers

RALEIGH, N.C. - Madeline Strandemo placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Ally McSherry was sixth in the 1,500-meter run to lead Minnesota on day one of the Raleigh Relays Friday.
Strandemo ran a career-best 10:21.84 to place third in the 3,000m steeplechase. Her personal-best time moved her into sixth among all-time Gophers. Taylor Mikkalson took eighth (10:45.56), and Jamie Piepenburg also made her outdoor debut in 15th place (10:59.62).
Four Gophers ran the 1,500-meter run, led by McSherry in sixth place, posting a time of 4:32.56 at less than half a second off her career-best time. Stacey Swatek (4:36.87) placed 21st in a field of 85 runners, and Tess Wasowicz (4:39.77) and Paige Peschel (4:46.52) each recorded career-best times.
Four more Gophers made their 2016 outdoor debuts as well. Danielle Anderson clocked a time of 17:36.05 for 25th place in the 5,000-meter run while Bailey Ness (36:12.70), Tamara Gorman (36:29.29), and Patty O'Brien (37:15.85) all ran their first collegiate 10,000-meter races.
The Raleigh Relays conclude on Saturday with the Gophers racing in the 4x800-meter relay and the 4x1500-meter relay, and Cami Gilson competing in the pole vault.
