Brodzinski Agrees to Terms with San Jose

MINNEAPOLIS (GopherSports.com) - Second Team All-Big Ten defenseman Michael Brodzinski has signed an amateur tryout contract with the San Jose Sharks organization with an entry-level contract following after the season.

Brodzinski made his professional debut on Saturday night with the San Jose Barracuda, the organization's AHL affiliate.

A native of Ham Lake, Minn., Brodzinski recorded 48 points (18 goals, 30 assists) in 99 career games with the Maroon & Gold and helped the Gophers earn three-straight Big Ten regular-season championships in his three years with the program as well as the 2015 Big Ten playoff title.

Brodzinski led all Minnesota defenseman and finished tied for fourth among Big Ten defensemen with 21 points (eight goals, 13 assists) in 2015-16 - all three statistics were career highs for the junior. His eight goals ranked tied for second among league defensemen while Brodzinski notched the first hat trick by a Big Ten defenseman in a 9-2 win at Wisconsin on Jan. 23, 2016.

"Michael has been a presence on our blue line since arriving on campus and was a big part of our program's success over the last three seasons," Minnesota head coach Don Lucia said. "His development really took off this season as he stepped into some larger roles for us, and he's ready to move on to the next level. We wish him the best of luck."



The San Jose Sharks selected Brodzinski in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
