Gophers Sweep Buffalo 7-0 at Baseline

The No. 45 Univeristy of Minnesota Gophers came out strong this evening topping Buffalo 7-0 in their first match back at Baseline in a month.
"I really respect that tough Buffalo team," head coach Chuck Merzbacher said. "It was a very hard fought doubles point followed by a very focused bunch when it came to singles. We needed to play that focused tonight."

Caroline Ryba and Julia Courter were the first to finish their doubles match (6-3) moving their record to 7-1 together. Paula Rincon-Otero and Annemarie Emme fell to their opponents 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles spot making a third straight match where the Gophers would have to win the final doubes match on the court to take the point.
Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher pulled out the 7-5 win against Buffalo's Kotak/Martinez-Blanco coming from behind as the Maroon and Gold won their tenth doubles point of the season.
The Gophers went undefeated in singles. Jessika Mozia was the first to finish her match against Losada (6-1, 6-3) in the No. 4 spot. Emme won her match in the No. 5 spot shortly after. Mozia is on a three match win streak while Emme has a team leading 12 singles vicotires.
Camila Vargas-Gomez won her match in the No. 6 spot 6-1, 6-1 to seal the Gopher victory and bring her record to 10-8 this year.
Rincon-Otero finished her match against Kotok in the No. 3 spot just before Courter won against Martinez-Blanco in the No. 2 spot. They both have 11 wins this season.
After a long battle and a tiebreak, Ryba pulled out the final Gopher win at the No. 1 spot ending a great night for Minnesota.
The Gophers improve to 8-4 this season and will cap off the weekend taking on Iowa State at 11 a.m. this Sunday.
