Solid Final Round Earns Gophers Tie for 12th

After an up-and-down first two days at the 2016 Tiger Invitational, the Gophers put together a good team round in Tuesday's finale, tying for 12th place for the second straight tournament. Minnesota shot a 298 team score in the final round for a total team score of 901.
Four members of the Minnesota squad had a better score Tuesday than they had the previous day, and two had their best round of the competition. Four of the counted scores for the Gophers Tuesday were lower than or equal to the lowest score posted in Monday's second round.
Senior captain Jon DuToit led the way for the Gophers in the final round. After starting +2 on the back nine, DuToit had three birdies over his last eight holes to post a round score of 71. He had a total score of 223 and finished in a tie for 28th.
Grady Meyer posted a 76 on Tuesday to cap off a solid tournament for the junior. Meyer finished second on the team with a total score of 224, putting him in a tie for 31st place overall. Meyer tied with DuToit for fewest bogeys on the team across the three rounds.
Justin Doeden led the team in birdies once again, getting five in the round. His birdie on the final hole Tuesday put his birdie total to 12, which tied for eighth most in the tournament. Doeden carded a 75 in the final round and finished the competition with a total score of 228.
Tom Vining had his best round of the competition Tuesday, birdieing four holes en route to a round of 76. Rúnar Arnorsson shot a 78 in the final round, finishing with a total score of 228 and tying with Doeden for 49th.
Troy used a 5-under final round as a team to take the lead in the team competition from Auburn with a total score of 862. Matt Gilchrest of Auburn took the individual title with a total score of 213.
Up Next: The Gophers will travel to San Diego to take part in the Lamkin San Diego Classic March 14-15.
