Gophers Conclude Regular Season at Hawkeye Invite

The Gophers will compete in their final tournament before the Big Ten Tournament this weekend as they travel to Iowa City for the Hawkeye Invitational.
The tournament will tee off for 36 holes at 9 a.m. on Saturday followed by a final 18 hole round on Sunday beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start.
The travel squad: Riley Johnson, Justin Doeden, Jon DuToit, Rúnar Arnorsson and Tom Vining will comprise the Gophers lineup. Johnson won a three round qualifier this past week to earn the top spot in the Minnesota lineup.
The field: The Gophers will join host Iowa as well as Denver, DePaul, Idaho, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Nebraska, South Alabama, South Dakota State, SMU, UMKC, and Wichita State.
"The top teams coming in are Kansas and SMU. Iowa always plays well at their home golf course. That's the only golf course that they have within 25 miles of the campus so they play there everyday," Head Coach John Carlson said. "Iowa State's coming off a big win at Airzona State last weekend. Those four teams are all playing really good golf at the time and I certainly hope that we can find ourselves that final day in that pairing with those four teams, and hopefully we'll play well in that pairing."
The course: The tournament will be held at Finkbine Golf Course. It is a par 72, 7,239 yard course.
"The guys like the golf course. More than that the golf courses in Minnesota closely resemble the style of golf course we see at Finkbine," Carlson said. "It's tree-lined all the way through. Par-5s are fairly short, they certainly yield quite a few eagles and birdies out there. There's really only a couple difficult golf holes that you have to get through."
Notes: *The Gophers have placed in the top five as a team the last three years at the Hawkeye Invitational.
*Three of the golfers competing for the Gophers this weekend have previously golfed at the Hawkeye Invitational.
