DuToit in Top-20 as Gophers Finish 12th

The Gophers wrapped up the 2016 Hawkeye Invitational Sunday with a tie for 12th place finish. Minnesota shot a 296 in the final round, and had a total score of 893.
Jon DuToit had the best individual finish of any Gopher, with an overall score of 217. Both of his first two rounds tied for lowest individual round score by any Minnesota golfer at 71. He had a 75 in Sunday's finale and finished in a tie for 16th.
This was the third time in the last four tournaments that a Minnesota golfer has had a top-20 individual finish.
Three Gophers, Riley Johnson, Justin Doeden, and Rúnar Arnorsson finished with a total score of 226, tying for 49th.
Arnorsson had the best final round of any Gopher, tying DuToit's tournament low round with a 71. He had six birdies in total Sunday, and did not go over par on any hole in the front nine.
After being tied following Saturday's rounds, Johnson and Doeden posted identical scores of 75 in the last round. Each birdied three holes, with the final birdie coming on the final hole for Johnson and the second to last hole for Doeden.
Tom Vining posted his third straight round of 79 on Sunday. Vining converted back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th early in his round. He finished in 74th.
Kansas won the team competition with a total score of 849. Ruben Sondjaja of Iowa State took the individual crown with a score of 206.
Up Next: The Gophers will head to the Big Ten conference tournament April 22-24 at Victoria National Golf Course in Newburgh, Ind.
