Weekly Wrap-Up: No. 19 Gophers Go Perfect

Minnesota took all four results last week and has taken 15 of its last 17 contests. The Gophers defeated North Dakota State at home on Tuesday before securing a sweep on the road at Northwestern to vault them to the top of the Big Ten standings and to a No. 19 national ranking.
The Maroon and Gold absolutely dominated in all facets of the game. Minnesota outscored its opponents 34-6 and held a .324 to .153 advantage in the batting average department. The Gophers held an astounding 1.00 ERA compared to an 8.23 ERA for the opposition. In the field, Minnesota tallied a .993 fielding percentage and forced the Bison and Wildcats to commit five errors.
The Gophers notched 13 extra-base hits from eight different sources, with Austin Athmann leading the way with three hits that went for at least two bases. Minnesota got home runs from Toby Hanson, Cole McDevitt, Connor Schaefbauer and Athmann to mark their highest total of five roundtrippers in a week this season.
Off to a Good Start
The starting pitching was at its peak this past week. The starting four of Toby Anderson, Matt Fiedler, Dalton Sawyer and Jake Stevenson combined for an ERA of 1.40 in 25.2 innings pitched.
The quartet tallied 26 strikeouts compared to just eight walks in the four games. Anderson, Fiedler, Sawyer and Stevenson limited the opposition to hit .103 (3-for-29) with runners on base and only seven of the 29 batters who led off the inning reached base.
Keep the Hits Coming
In the four games, Minnesota combined for 48 hits, with three games of double-digit hits. The Gophers have had no shortage of 10-plus hit outings as they have done so in 26 contests thus far in 2016.
There have been 118 instances where players have picked up multiple hits in a game this season. Matt Fiedler paces the team with 20 such occurances, while Austin Athmann and Connor Schaefbauer are close behind with 14 apiece.
