Gophers Enjoy Championship Recognition

MINNEAPOLIS - Throughout the past month, the 2016 national champion Golden Gopher women's hockey team has been honored across the Twin Cities for winning the program's seventh national championship this season.

March 31, 2016: Minnesota Senate

The Gophers were honored at the Minnesota Senate when a resolution cosponsored by U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken was passed. The resolution recognized the hard work of the team when they won the program's seventh national championship and fourth championship in the last five years. The resolution also recognized coach Brad Frost for his leadership, the achievements of the players, coaches, staff and fans.

April 7, 2016: Minnesota House of Representatives

The Gophers visited the Minnesota House of Representatives to be recognized for their championship season as well. The team was introduced on the House floor and celebrated for winning the 2016 national championship.

April 9, 2016: Minnesota Wild Game

The Gophers attended the Minnesota Wild's final regular-season home game at the Xcel Energy Center against the Calgary Flames. Following recognition on the video board for their successful season, the Gophers received a standing ovation from the crowd.

April 18, 2016: Governor's Residence

Governor Mark Dayton proclaimed April 18, 2016 as Gopher Women's Hockey National Champions Day following the team's arrival to the governor's mansion for a reception. Governor Dayton and several local officials congratulated the Gophers on the 2016 national championship victory.

April 20, 2016: Minnesota Wild Game

Seniors Amanda Kessel and Hannah Brandt attended the Minnesota Wild's second home game of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs versus the Dallas Stars, where the duo announced "Let's Play Hockey" prior to puck drop.

April 25, 2016: Minnesota Twins Game

The Gophers attended the Minnesota Twins game against the Cleveland Indians at Target Field, where they were honored on the field before the game began. Hannah Brandt was the Twins' guest of honor and threw out the ceremonial first pitch.
