DES MOINES, Iowa - Minnesota's 4x1600-meter relay team of Kaila Urick, Haley Johnson, Taylor Mikkalson, and Madeline Strandemo cruised to the Drake Relays title, clocking a time of 19:21.71 at Drake Stadium Thursday evening.
The Gophers' time of 19:21.71 marks the eighth-fastest 4x1600m relay time in program history and the fastest since the relay team of Katie Moraczewski, Molly Kayfes, Ashlie Decker, and Laura Docherty posted a time of 19:17.71 in 2012.
The title marks the Gophers' first title at the Drake Relays since winning the distance medley relay in 2013 when the team of Katie Hill, Alena Brooks, Te'Shon Adderley, and Laura Docherty set a Minnesota program record in 11:06.47.
Action at the Drake Relays continues Friday and Saturday, and the Gophers are also set to compete at Simpson College's Kip Janvrin Open (Thursday-Friday), Kansas's Rock Chalk Classic (Saturday), and Macalester College's Janis Rider Invite (Saturday).
