Gophers Lose to No. 11 Michigan

The No. 70 Minnesota Golden Gophers lost their match to the No. 11 Michigan Wolverines 6-1 Sunday afternoon at baseline.
The loss was just the second of the year at home for the Gophers. They are 12-8 on the season and 4-3 in Big Ten play.
The Gophers started out strong in doubles, but ultimately fell to their Wolverine counterparts in all three matches.
Jessika Mozia and Paula Rincon-Otero finished their match first against Minor/Fahey and lost 6-2 at the No. 1 spot. Shortly after, Mehvish Safdar and Caitlyn Merzbacher also lost their match in the No. 3 spot, 6-4.
Caroline Ryba and Julia Courter battled back and forth with Ruder-Hook/Najarian before falling to them 7-5 in the No. 2 spot. That was just the tandems third loss of the season.
The Gophers moved into the singles matches without the doubles point, and continued to play hard against the Wolverines. Rincon-Otero was the first to finish her match, losing (6-0, 6-1) in the No. 2 spot. Mozia finished soon after with a loss at the No. 4 spot, (6-2, 6-0).
Michigan's Yurovsky ended up beating Ryba (6-1, 6-4) in the No. 1 spot and later Julia Courter lost her match with Michigan's Minor in the No. 3 spot, (6-2, 6-4).
Camila Vargas Gomez gave Minnesota a win with a (6-4, 6-4) victory over Michigan's Remynse.
Annemarie Emme fought long and hard with Michigan's Najarian, but ultimately fell to her opponent after a tiebreak.
The Gophers have a week off before hitting the road the road to take on Purdue next on April 15 at 2 p.m.
