Gophers Set Spring Bests, Finish Seventh

Minnesota finished seventh in the 2016 ASU Thunderbird Invitational, recording a total team score of 866. The Gophers total score was their best 54-hole score of the spring season, and their second best total score of the 2015-16 season.
Four Gophers set new spring season lows for total tournament score, and two had their best single round of their college career.
Peter Jones had the best round of any Minnesota golfer on Sunday, shooting a career best 70 in the competition's final round. Jones birdied four holes on the back nine Sunday, and had five birdies overall, which led the Gophers in the third round. He had the best total score of any Gopher with a 216 and tied for 27th, both of which were career records.
Justin Doeden had a total score of 217, which is his best tournament score of the spring season. He had his second 72 round of the tournament on Sunday, giving him round scores of 72-73-72. He finished in a tie for 29th
Finishing one stroke behind him was Jon DuToit, who finished with a final score of 218 and in a tie for 33rd. DuToit also had his best tournament score of the spring season and his second round score of 69 was his best of the spring.
Finishing one stroke behind DuToit was Riley Johnson, who posted a total score of 219. Johnson's first round score of 67 was the best round of the tournament for any Minnesota golfer, and was the best round of his college career His total score tied his best of the spring season. He finished in 40th.
Rúnar Arnorsson also competed for Minnesota, posting a total score of 226 and finishing in a tie for 57th.
Iowa State won the team competition with a total score of 832. Jon Rahm of Arizona State won the individual crown for the third straight year with a 54-hole score of 198.
