MINNEAPOLIS - The Golden Gophers head to the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships this Friday through Sunday. Minnesota looks to build on its third-place team showing at last year's outdoor meet.

About the 2016 Big Ten Championship

The University of Nebraska is set to host the 2016 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Ed Weir Stadium on the Nebraska campus. All-session tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for high school age and younger. College students with ID will receive the youth rate. Public parking for the championship will be located in Lots 8, 9, & 12.

The meet runs Friday through Sunday. Friday's competition gets underway at noon and includes decathlon and heptathlon events along with hammer throw, 10,000m run, and men's pole vault.

BTN to Provide Live B1G Championship Coverage

On Sunday, May 15 at 1:40 p.m. CT, the Big Ten Network will provide live coverage on BTN2Go, for the first time, of the Big Ten Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships from Nebraska. Coverage of the championships also will air on BTN that night at 6 p.m. CT.

Last Time Out: Tommie Twilight and Meet of the Un-Saintly

Minnesota won 10 events at the Tommie Twilight. On the track, Bolade Jinadu won the 200m dash in 25.14 seconds and Molly Eastman won the 5,000m run in a career-best 17:45.71. Minnesota took home four titles in the field events as Cami Gilson won the pole vault at 3.87m (12-08.25), and the Gophers won three of four throwing events led by Agnes Esser winning both the discus (50.05m, 164-02) and the hammer throw (59.04m, 193-08). In addition, Kiley Sabin won the shot put at 15.23m (49-11.75) and was runner-up in the discus (47.08m, 154-05). Unattached Gophers Rachel Schow (100m hurdles, 14.18; 400m hurdles, 1:00.38), Sophia Anderson (400m, 56.95), and Megan Flanagan (3,000m steeple chase, 11:15.07) also won their events.

At the Meet of the Un-Saintly, Lyndsey Thorpe and Cami Gilson won their respective events to lead the Gophers at the Meet of the Un-Saintly. Thorpe led the Gophers in the hammer throw as Minnesota claimed the top five places, winning her second hammer title of the year with a throw of 60.20m (197-06). Gilson cleared 3.85m (12-07.75) to lead Minnesota with the pole vault title. Competing unattached, Sophia Anderson won the 400m in 56.82 seconds and Rebecca Wesley won the 800m in 2:17.12.

2015 Big Ten Championship Rewind

The Gophers placed third in the team standings with 93 points at the 2015 Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Minnesota's top finishers included Jess Lehman winning the B1G heptathlon and Nicolle Murphy finishing as Big Ten runner-up in the javelin. The Gophers' 4x400m relay team of Jessica Waldvogel, Emerald Egwim, Erin Hawkins, and Titania Markland also earned a runner-up finish. Devin Stanford finished second in the hammer and third in the discus as well.

2016 Indoor Season Ends with B1G Fourth-Place Finish

The Gophers capped the 2016 indoor season with a fourth-place showing at the Big Ten Conference Indoor Championship led by Titania Markland's 600-meter title and Jess Lehman's pentathlon title. Minnesota scored 89 points to finish fourth, its highest indoor team finish since also placing fourth in 2014. Michigan took home the team title with 109 points, followed by Purdue (102 points) and Penn State (96.50 points) in the top three.

Outdoor Program Records Fall

Kimberly Golding broke Minnesota's outdoor program record in the 100m hurdles at 13.11 seconds at the Rock Chalk Classic. She has broken her own record three times this season. The Gophers have posted all-time top-10 marks in 18 events this season, including Emma Spagnola (13.20 seconds, 100m hurdles), Madeline Strandemo (10:03.52, 3,000m steeple chase), and Lyndsey Thorpe (61.51m, 201-09, hammer throw) recording the second-best marks in program history in their respective events.

USTFCCCA Team Rankings

Minnesota is No. 35 of 192 ranked teams in this week's USTFCCCA National Team Computer Rankings with 54.60 points. The Gophers (556.92) are third in the Midwest Region in this week's USTFCCCA Regional Team Computer Rankings behind No. 1 Kansas State (629.03) and No. 2 Oklahoma (565.66).

Up Next: NCAA West Preliminary

The championship portion of the season continues for the Gophers. NCAA preliminary qualifiers are scheduled to be announced next Thursday, May 19, with the meet set for Thursday, May 26 through Saturday, May 28.
