Gophers Hold Successful Strike Out Cancer Campaign

The University of Minnesota baseball program and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society paired together for it's annual Strike Out Cancer campaign. Golden Gopher fans and LLS supporters raised over $1,550 for the day.
Student-athletes were stationed near the gates collecting donations toward cancer research. LLS also held a table with information and also sold "Strike Out Cancer" wristbands, t-shirts and Oakes book, "Why Not Me."
Oakes was initially diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia in June 2012. After intensive treatment, Oakes was in remission for over two years before receiving news in November 2014 that the cancer had returned. Now in his third battle with cancer, he has continued his support towards the LLS Minnesota Chapter as an executive board member. Oakes continues to dedicate time to help other patients.
Oakes is just $3,000 away from raising enough funds to name a $25,000 research grant through LLS. Supporters can still donate by visiting www.StrikeOutCancer.org.
