The No. 25 Minnesota baseball program took care of business on the diamond last week by winning all three games at Purdue. The Gophers notched their third series sweep of conference play and have won six Big Ten series in 2016.

Minnesota outscored Purdue 21-7 across the three-game set. Two-thirds of those runs came in a 14-4 trouncing in the second game, when the Maroon and Gold plated 12 runs in the final three innings of play.

Dan Motl led the team by crossing the plate five times, including a career-best four times in the Saturday affair. Riley Smith added four runs, while Alex Boxwell and Micah Coffey each stepped on home plate three times.

The Gophers only needed six pitchers to finish the successful weekend. As a staff, Minnesota held the Boilermakers to hit just .192, including .186 with two outs in a given inning.

Jordan Jess did not allow a hit to guide the staff in that particular category, while Lucas Gilbreath (.125), Toby Anderson (.133) and Tyler Hanson (.176) all held the opposition to a batting clip below .200.

Clutch Masters

Though the Gophers offense was held to its lowest batting average (.287) in six weeks, they got it done when it mattered most.

Of Minnesota's 33 hits, 20 came with two outs in an inning. The team hit a blazing .426 with two men down in a frame.

To. Hanson paced the team with four two-hits and he was joined by Jordan Smith (three), Austin Athmann (two), Matt Fiedler (two), Boxwell (two) and Motl (two) as the six who tallied multiple hits with two outs in a stanza.

Not only did the Gophers just get hits with their backs against the wall, they did some serious damage with each base knock. Minnesota recorded 12 two-out RBI over the 28-inning series.

A New Low

The Gophers reached a new low last week - and it was a good thing.

As a team, Minnesota touted a 1.29 ERA, which is the lowest it has registered in a series this campaign. The previous season-best mark came at Northwestern nearly a month ago when the Gophers hurled a 1.33 team ERA.

Four of the pitchers used did not allow a single run as Anderson, Gilbreath, Jess and Ty. Hanson combined for a clean 0.00 ERA.

Despite Purdue having 40 chances to scratch across a run, the pitching staff sent the Boilermakers packing 37 times without a scoring a run on a base knock.
